People with Diabetes have high blood glucose levels because -

  • Pancrease do not secrete enough insulin
  • Their body does not respond to insulin, or both.

  • As a result, glucose is not able to enter the cell and get converted into energy. Thus glucose level goes up in the body and diabetes sets in.

Insulin : Acts like a key

For the blood sugar to get inside a cell we need a key.

This key in our body is Insulin.

Insulin is a hormone made in our pancrease, a small gland behind the stomach.

Its acts like a key, opening many doors on a body cell, so that sugar can get inside.

Glucose gets converted into energy inside the cell.

Sugar : source of fuel for the body

The food we eat contains various components like carbohydrates, fats, proteins etc..

Carbohydrate are broken down into simpler food form called Glucose(sugar) in the stomach and intestine.

This glucose (sugar)enters into our bloodstream.

Sugar (glucose)is the source of fuel for the body.
